Hi sorry not been about for a while I have been so busy with looking for a house as we are moving as we sold ours, anyway went to Stiffkey as we had a tipoff that Hen Harriers were there and the tip paid off have a look at the fantastic female we photoed shame it was a bit far away but what a bird, a few other nice catches too.

We thought we would give Hickling Broad a try and it was a nice change, we wanted to photograph a crane and a Hen Harrier here, well one out of two isn’t bad although we thought we had got the Hen at one stage, but got others like five Konik ponies that are kept at Hickling National Nature Reserve all year round for grazing and are beautiful enjoy!

Titchwell Marsh, what a lovely place! Got there just before the sun came up and wow, got some great pictures of new birds I hadn’t seen before and a Juvenile Pink Startling that lots of people were waiting for came in, picture not great as light was fading but loads of other great stuff, will definitely go there again.

Just thought we would try this walk as we had heard some good things, only had a few hours but a very nice walk not that far but filled with wild life, I only got a weasel and a cormorant in flight picture but saw much more even a Water Rail popped out on the path and back in, so worth another look with more time.

My son hadn’t been to Strumpshaw Fen before, so we went over to have a look as it was a very warm day so shorts and at least at Strumpshaw you can wear shorts, my pictures are first I will put my sons up when he sends them over but not a bad day in the tower hide we even got a male Kingfisher, enjoy.

My friend saw a family of Sparrow-hawks here, so we thought we would stake it out and see what we could get, not the most amazing shots I have taken but not bad as the elements were against us, rat at the end was great though bless him!

I had a walk over Bowthorpe to test the new camera a bit more, the full frame of the D850 is unforgiving and is not for the new cumber, it picks holes in your technique something I relish but not for everyone, saying that I am getting there you have to up your game to get a great finish and at fasted shutter speeds, but it is not a starters camera pick the D500, less mean.

Had a great day at Strumpshaw Fen and tried a new walk Buckenham Marshes not that far away, both very good and I tried a new camera, at last I got a full frame Nikon D850 very nice camera but it will take me awhile to get use to a full frame and not a cropped, but not bad images enjoy.

We thought we would check this walk out, as there have been sightings of a Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker nests, and there was! We managed to catch one woodpecker leaving the nest and my friend even had a robin eat from his hand, which took us both by surprise and I was so close I couldn’t get it fully in focus but still an experience.

I Took my son Tom on these walks as he hadn’t been before, we started later about 11 as he had stuff to do. We started with the Wheatfen Nature Reserve also known as Ted Ellis Trust and loved the walk, then went to the church Marsh walk, didn’t see huge amounts probable because we talked our way round but still got some good shots and Tom took his camera I will put his shots up when he sends me them.

I Had not been to Strumpshaw Fen before but it didn’t disappoint it was a lovely place to walk and had lots to see, although the hides were closed you could use the side bit’s to look through, so another good day wildlife viewing!

Went for a quick 2 hour walk around Barford near Golf course and took a few pictures in and around a wood, got back to the car and spotted a Skylark above me you will see at the end of the pictures, a bit far away but cropped in to at least see it was a Skylark, beautiful song.

I walked around the lake of the UEA as there are two pairs of Great Crested Grebes nesting, one pair is sitting on eggs and the other I got a few pictures of the chicks, making sure I didn’t disturb them, three that I could see even one fell off the mothers back, or a brother pushed him! He did get back on though and you can see the father Grebe trying to get them to eat a fish, nature is a wonderful thing.

Tried out the Teleconverter TC-14EII on the new lens, gives 700mm but you lose 1 stop so your F4 becomes F5.6 min. which is okay if you have lots of light, Kingfishers on pictures are quite far away but low light also as you will see, so may stick with standard 500mm giving me more light at F4 and put converter on if needing that extra reach, we will see, did get some nice pics but nothing new about at the moment.

In the back garden at about 6am was a small Muntjac so I grabbed my camera and snapped it, even having a run in with a Neighbours cat I call Slinky, info the things under their eyes are preorbital glands and Fawns open their preorbital glands as a signal that they are hungry, and close the gland after feeding, when they are no longer hungry. Other than during the rut (mating season) and for the first six months after giving birth, the adult Indian muntjac (Muntiacus muntjac) is a solitary animal.

We walked these walks again as they were so good last time and again they didn’t disappoint, we got bearded Tits that are very difficult to get at this time, albeit a distant shot and Mr & Mrs Kingfisher also distant.

We thought we would try the Boudicca Way walk someone told us about, it was okay I’m not sure we walked the whole walk but not that impressed what we did, so we went to Marston Marsh for the last part of the day but still got some nice wildlife enjoy.

This walk was new to me a client told me about it, it took a bit to find the root but it was a very good walk, I missed the Kingfisher by 5 minutes and it started to get busy around 4:30 when I left but a good day.

I had fun with the camera this walk, I changed my Cameras memory cards round for a change, ring the changes as they say! Then half way round our walk I had an error ‘can not display file’, I had a spare card so changed but that one was faulty so changed back and carried on, let this be a lesson always check you cards and make sure you take a good spare, I lost half my pictures on this walk I found later, I did get some as you will see below but lost loads ever a barn owl later, so always check equipment lesson learned.

Below the pictures you will find a Youtube video of a Lapwing, Pied Wagtail and Fieldfare I produced sorry about the quality I was using a monopod and the lens was dirty as was the day at points.
